Voices for Canberra is a volunteer not-for-profit group aiming to endorse a Community Independent candidate for the federal electorate of Canberra. We are your neighbours, the people you see at the local shops, at the school gate, and around the neighbourhood. We want better representation in the federal electorate of Canberra. We want to make the electorate of Canberra a champion of Australian politics, where our candidate genuinely represents the aspirations and priorities of the community.
Modelling from RedBridge and Accent a year out from the likely date of the next federal election indicates the result is equally likely to be a Labor majority or a Labor minority government, with almost no chance of a Coalition government.
Labor majority means more of the same, while Labor minority could see the cross-bench of Independents and minor parties start to turn things around.
Many people vote for Labor, Liberal or Greens candidates, and Labor has for decades dominated elections in this division. But electing any of the major party candidates only perpetuates the partisan division currently in Parliament. For us in the ‘safe’ electorate of Canberra, there is a very simple conclusion: the way to make a real difference will be to support and vote for a strong Community Independent.
So, if you’re interested in better representation in the federal electorate of Canberra, please join our mailing list and get involved and tell your friends.
